SUMMARY:Alanna McDaniel at the Copeland Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Carson Valley Arts Council (CVAC) presents local artist Alanna McDaniel at the Copeland Gallery in Minden from February 3\, 2025 through March 28\, 2025.  The exhibit can be viewed Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm. Alanna’s paintings and her knit hats are available for purchase. \nCVAC will be hosting an artist’s reception on Saturday\, February 8\, 2025\, 1 pm to 3 pm. Refreshments will be served and it is free to the public. Come and meet Alanna and preview her amazing work. \nAlanna primarily paints with acrylic paint and uses various glazes\, stains\, and gels along with the acrylic paint. Some of her work is also done in oils. \nAlanna also knits hats. Knitting hats has been a hobby for Alanna for many years. “In a time of celebrating diversity it seems fitting to celebrate our different hats\, the different hats we choose to wear\,” says Alanna. \nStudent work from her classes with her own work can be viewed on her Facebook site ArtForLifeArtStudios.

The development of the impressive Tahoe Blue Events Center Stateline provided an impressive venue for large scale events\, professional hockey\, sports events\, and a concert venue for renowned artists on tour. This venue fills a need for these types of enhanced tourism offerings. Our Valley now has a wonderful opportunity to develop support for a variety of arts programs\, to at the community level\, to foster a value in the arts for generations to come. \nA performing arts venue\, located in the Gardnerville/Minden area\, has long been a desire for many arts groups\, and it was identified as the “#1 Top Need” during recent the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Capital Project Planning. The operator of the Ironwood 8 Cinemas has decided to not renew their lease of the facility. This facility includes 8 movie theaters\, a concession stand and approximately 23\,000 sq. ft. of space. The owner of the building has approached Douglas County officials with a proposal for the County to purchase this facility for $2.9 million. This coming week\, the Town of Minden and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners will have this item on their Agendas to discuss and possibly vote upon. \nTogether\, Carson Valley Arts Council and the Cultural Arts Foundation of Douglas County are asking for your support in the County purchase of this building. We need to work together to create a Performing Arts Venue for the Carson Valley that will support and greatly enhance the multitude of arts programs and cultural offerings for our children andadults. \nHere are some facts about this project: \n\nNo General Fund Dollars are being used for the purchase of this facility – funds have restricted use as they are from Transit Occupancy Tax Dollars from 2020.\nCarson Valley Arts Council is prepared to commit to a partnership agreement providing $250\,000 toward this effort and are willing and able to become the lead County Partner in future facility operations and oversight of needs identification (from arts organization involvement and participation)\, architectural design and construction.\nA multitude of non-profit\, private arts organizations and artisans (even before this opportunity presented itself) initiated an effort for a Valley-wide Arts Alliance. This group will work together\, as a unified group\, to enhance the arts community in the Valley and promote the value of all types of arts. Together\, we know\, we can achieve so much more.\n\nMuch is unknown at this early stage about what will be a multi-year process to determine the use and specifics of this facility. DESCRIPTION:Douglas High School students will have their work on display at the Copeland Gallery in Minden from March 31\, 2025 through May 2\, 2025. This exhibition presents mixed-media works that students have composed over a yearlong course of study under teacher Kelly Yost. The exhibition can be viewed Monday through Saturday\, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nCVAC will host a reception for the student artists on Saturday\, April 5\, from 1 to 3 pm. The reception is free and open to the public. Come and meet Kristy and Tina. \nKRISTY DIAL \nGourd Art \nKristy is a professional gourd artist and teacher with 25 years of experience. She is currently the President of the Nevada Gourd Society and is an AGS Certified Judge. \nHer award-winning gourds have been shown in juried art shows and galleries throughout the western United States. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nTINA FORKNER \nWatercolor \nTina began painting in watercolor in 1997. Over the years she has developed her own personal style that can be described as detailed and representational. I like to think of myself as a storyteller artist. I am fascinated by subjects that are old and forgotten\, especially objects that continue to display their history\, character and charm. This is particularly evident in my ongoing Bodie series where my goal is to capture the passage of time as old vehicles become part of the landscape\, weathered buildings that lean from years of neglect and doors open to the past\, filled with untold stories. Additionally\, her paintings include landscapes\, wildlife\, animals and even portraits.

DESCRIPTION:“Double the fun – we’re turning 81” \nFebruary 2 through March 27\, 2026 \nThe Carson Valley Arts Council (CVAC) presents local artists Vickie Kingman and Eddie Ford at the Copeland Gallery in Minden from February 2 through March 27\, 2026. \nEddie works in oils and watercolors. Eddie’s works feature landscapes and flowers. Vickie works with watercolors\, oils and acrylics. Vickie’s works feature abstract landscapes. \nThe exhibit can be viewed Monday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Vickie’s and Eddie’s work will be available for purchase. \nCVAC will host an artist’s reception for Vickie and Eddie on Saturday\, February 7\, 2026 from 1 until 3 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Come and meet the ladies and help them celebrate turning 81.
