Date: Sunday April 5, 2020
Time: 4:00 pm
Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Avenue, Gardnerville
The St. Matthew Passion was written for two separate Choirs, accompanied by two small Orchestras. In most Arias, only one Orchestra provides accompaniment. The Choirs are sometime separated, but more often sing in unison or antiphony – moving the story forwards, and also providing commentary on the events. At different times, the Choruses appear as an unruly mob, or quiet witnesses, or actual participants in the story.
Vocal Soloists for this presentation will include: Robert Bousquet as the Evangelist; Stuart Duke and Gary Aldrich (on alternating performances) as Jesus; Michael Lloyd as Peter; Richard Haines as Judas; Brad Perry and Erik Linnell (on alternating performances) as Pilate; and also Chris Nelson and John Rabben (on alternating performances) as the Priest. Joy Strotz will appear as Mother Mary. Becky Earl and Anne Davidson will appear (on alternate performances) in the role of Mary Magdeline.
The Two TOCCATA Orchestras will feature Jeffrey Lindhorst and Brian Fox as Concertmasters for Orchestra One; Rick Stockton as Concertmaster for Orchestra Two; with David Brock, Nick Haines, John Cardoza; and Lou Groffman as continuo players.
All concert performances will be conducted by Maestro James Rawie.
The Douglas County performance will be on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Avenue, in Gardnerville, at 4pm.
