Current Funding Priorities

Carson Valley Arts Council Celebrates Two Decades

The Carson Valley Arts Council (CVAC) is celebrating two decades of providing arts and culture to the community. Formed in August 2004, CVAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, a Nevada corporation, and a Local Arts Agency designated by Douglas County. CVAC consists of community volunteers dedicated to supporting the arts in Douglas County by hosting an annual concert series, providing youth arts in our schools, an annual art studio tour, and many other events in the community.

The organization’s mission is to create a climate that cultivates the arts through the presentation and promotion of cultural and educational events for Carson Valley youth and community and greater Western Nevada.

Since 2010, CVAC has been working with our schools to bring art instruction to the youth of our community. CVAC has a mini-grant program to help our schools acquire art supplies and musical instruments. CVAC also brings Missoula Children’s Theatre to our schools.

Our current funding priorities are:

  1. Support for CVAC’s Youth Arts Education Program
  2. Support for CVAC’s Concert Series
  3. Support for the renovation of the Copeland Building.

This is what you can make happen with a donation of $1,000 to $10,000 or more.

Supports our Youth Arts Education program

CVAC’s Youth Arts Education Program is designed to educate, entertain, and enlighten the youth of Douglas County through interactive performing arts presentations. There are two programs that CVAC currently has:

  1. CVAC brings professional musical performers to local schools in an assembly format.
  2. Artist Residency Program. School programs are set up either in assembly format; or with individual instruction by a professional artist in the classroom. The schools select the performer that they want to provide instruction in their school. Since 2017 CVAC has brought Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) to our schools.

Supports our Concert Series

This series is offered between October and May of each year and is now in its 18th year. The series offers family-friendly entertainment that brings high-caliber touring artists to Douglas County. This series has become the cornerstone of our programming and “unites and inspires the community.” We look for sponsors to help us fund our concert series for which we recognize the sponsor in our program and on our website.

Most of the professional musicians that we bring in also have an educational component and we take the performers to our local schools.

Supports the renovation of the historic Copeland building

CVAC acquired the historic Copeland Building in 2008 with the vision of turning it into a performing arts and cultural center for the community. That dream is one step closer to reality. The Copeland Building was placed on the Nevada Historical Register in 2022. In 2024 CVAC hired an architect to produce architectural drawings for a renovated building. In the next year CVAC is positioned to raise funds necessary to renovate the Copeland Building.

We have been diligent with the care, renovation and interpretation of this significant building. However, as with any large and historic building extensive projects are the norm and it has been 12 years since we did any renovations on the building. As we expand our programming, youth arts educational programs and outreach, the building remains our number one priority.

We are currently seeking donations so that we begin our major renovation process.
